Many children love creative dramatic play with props and costumes. Dramatic play allows children to take on other roles and pretend imaginatively. These roles may be mundane or fantastical. Dramatic play offers an excellent opportunity for developmental learning. This play may be structured (scenario defined by parent or teacher) or unstructured (child is free to be creative and define their own scenario and roles). Dramatic play can allow children to regulate their impulses. It can help them develop language skills and vocabulary. It allows children to practice resolving conflict. It helps kids develop functional skills (eg: counting change). It also empowers children to encounter less familiar situations in a way they can control.
